Research demonstrates the most important aspect of therapeutic success is the relationship with the therapist—not the therapeutic modality or style. As such, I see an initial face-to-face session as an opportunity for us both to discern if it feels like a good fit. An initial session is a chance for me to learn more about you and for you to experience working with me. I encourage prospective clients to reflect on their experience in our initial session to help discern if we would work well together moving forward. Before scheduling an initial session, I typically begin with a brief phone consultation, to discuss what you’re looking for and what I can offer.
I work with most clients weekly for a 50-minute individual session or 70-minute couples session in order to offer regular support and create opportunity for lasting change. I find that the kind of growth and transformation that sticks is the result of consistent therapeutic work. As a therapy client myself, I know the financial and personal commitment that regular sessions require. It takes courage and vulnerability to show up week by week. My hope is that your commitment to therapy is an extension of your commitment to yourself.
I am an in-network provider with First Choice and Kaiser PPO. I am an out-of-network provider with all other insurance companies. For some insurance plans, I can provide documentation as an out-of-network provider for you to submit to your insurance for full or partial reimbursement. I do not work with insurance for any couples or family therapy. Know that insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis, which becomes a part of your health record. Diagnosis can be a useful tool in identifying what is going on and help direct the course of our work. However, diagnosis is not comprehensive nor is it necessarily the most important part of your mental health journey. If a diagnosis is not present, insurance billing is not applicable. Private pay offers the greatest level of flexibility, confidentiality, and ownership of our therapeutic work. I provide a limited number of reduced fee appointments, according to financial need. I’d be glad to discuss payment and fees in our phone consultation.
